A Siskiyou County man is accused of starting a couple of arson fires very early Wednesday morning. Cal-Fire and Montague volunteers extinguished a fire at less than an acre a little before 3AM in a field off East Buell Street. A nearby resident had heard a pop and saw a flash and glow, alerting her to the fire, which nearly spread to several homes. Another fire broke out at around 4AM off Ager Road, and that time a truck driver saw a man start it. He informed Montague’s Fire Chief, who followed the suspect until a deputy arrived and took 20-year-old Noah Smith into custody. He had a bow and arrows, as well as a flare gun believed to have been used to start at least one of the fires. He was booked into jail.
