A Trinity County woman suffered major injuries in a head-on crash with a large pickup near Lewiston last Friday, but her baby was uninjured, according to the Trinity Journal. At 4:40PM in the afternoon the roads were wet and the CHP says 34-year-old Rosemarie Cantero of Junction City was driving too fast. She was westbound on Highway 299 just east of Trinity Dam Boulevard when she rounded a curve and her Acura MDX slid into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with a Ford F350 occupied by James Dean and Jesse Ortega of White City, Oregon. Cantero was trapped in the wreckage of the car and had to be extricated before being transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding with major injuries. Her baby was strapped securely and correctly in a child safety seat in the back. Dean and Ortega had moderate injuries.
