A woman who’s body was recovered from an East Redding house fire early Monday morning has been identified as 82-year-old Alice Girdwood Planellas. Redding Fire Department was called at 2:45AM to a house on Alfreda Way. They arrived to find the house about 50% involved in fire. A man and a woman had made it out on their own and they told firefighters that someone was still inside. Rescuers tried to reach the rear bedroom where the victim was located, but the fire was too intense and they had to retreat. When they were eventually able to get to her, it was too late. A post-mortem exam is scheduled. Three dogs also died in the fire. The house is a total loss, with the structure and contents estimated at $225,000. Red Cross is helping to find temporary housing for the two displaced people.
