A Tehama County man who has repeatedly abused his family may be going to prison for almost a decade. 30-year-old John Anthony Ables Jr. was arrested by Tehama County Deputies last June. He had become enraged during an argument with his wife about car keys. While driving with his wife and their children in the car he traveled at dangerous speeds and swerved around while threatening to crash the car and kill them all. He then pulled a knife out of his pocket and acted like he was stabbing his wife in the leg, and also threatened to slit her throat and kill her. He punched her in the face as well. Ables was convicted of 2 felony counts of child endangerment, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats with two priors and domestic battery. He’s been sentenced to 9-years-8-months in state prison.
