The Latest: Bomb Squad Removes Plastic Explosives From North Redding Neighborhood

A street in North Redding was evacuated for most of the afternoon Thursday after the discovery of multiple potentially explosive devices. Redding Police were called by Rusty and Mary McAlexander on Hiatt Drive off of Lake Boulevard. That’s where Buckeye School is located, and where Redding Police shot a man holding a baseball bat last Wednesday. That was in a different backyard, and doesn’t appear to be related, according to police. The McAlexanders called 9-1-1 shortly after One O’clock when they found a note on their front door, according to Redding Police Lieutenant Jon Poleski. The note was not threatening in any way, it simply advised that explosives were concealed on the property. The school was evacuated along with neighboring homes, and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad was called to the scene. They sent their bomb robot into the backyard, and it retrieved two packages of a plastic explosive material similar to C4. There were apparently no detonators so police don’t believe the explosives were placed there to harm anyone in the neighborhood.  Anyone with information is urged to call 225-4214.
