A man suspected of murdering an elderly man over the weekend has made a court appearance. 33-year-old Chance Locken was taken into custody on Saturday and charged in the shooting death of 77-year-old William Robert Humphries, whose family had found him dead at his home on Gaucho Road, which is off Boyle near Old Alturas. The Sheriff’s Office says William Humphries had been shot multiple times. He was found in the home with several guns nearby and evidence of an altercation. Locken was arrested on Dune Street after reportedly telling Redding Police that he had awakened in an unfamiliar home near a dead man who had been shot. Locken has been arraigned on charges including murder, residential burglary and taking a stolen vehicle. His bail is set at $1 million. He’ll return to court February 22nd when a preliminary hearing will be set.
