Redding Police have arrested a teenager suspected in a recent series of smash-and-grab burglaries at several stores. The thefts of mostly cigarettes, vaping supplies and liquor were all done in the very early morning hours. The value of the stolen goods is in the thousands, but so is the value of the damage in broken glass and window frames. On May 19th “Tobacco and Vapez” on Churn Creek Road was hit for more than $5000 worth of merchandise. On May 24th a glass door was shattered at the Chevron Station on Shasta View at Tarmac. More than $500 worth of cigarettes was stolen and four days later, on the 28th, another glass door was shattered at the same store and over $1300 worth of cigarettes was stolen. On June 10th someone broke a window at the Holiday Market on Hartnell Avenue and took three bottles of vodka, but then dropped them while running away. A witness to that theft pointed investigators in the direction of a home on Wilson Avenue, and an anonymous tip also helped identify the suspect. Wednesday night police arrived at the home to make an arrest. The suspect fled out the back door but he was caught. During questioning he eventually admitted to the burglaries, according to police, and he was booked into juvenile hall.
