Fraternity Charged After Cutting Down Trees In National Forest

A Chico fraternity is facing criminal charges for cutting down trees in the Lassen National Forest. On the weekend of April 21st, Pi Kappa Alpha was at the Deer Creek Trailhead campground for an initiation of new pledges. They allegedly cut down 32 trees while they were there. The fraternity and its president, Evan Jossey, face 32 federal charges of damaging timber, as well as illegal firearm possession and conspiracy. The Forest Service plans to file additional charges. The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office helped in the investigation.
