Man Convicted Of 2014 Fatal DUI Crash

A 37-year-old Palo Cedro man faces a very lengthy prison sentence following his conviction Thursday of second degree murder for killing a 68-year-old Shingletown man in a drunk driving crash. On the night of October 24th, 2014 Jason Harsin had drunk 14 beers at a relative’s home in Anderson. He was driving a Ford pickup on Highway 44 just west of Millville Plains Road at a very high rate of speed and on a gradual right-hand curve he crossed into the oncoming lane and slammed head-on into a Subaru driven by Richard Bates, killing him. Harsin, who had multiple broken bones, was belligerent and combative to paramedics and bystanders who tried to help him. Several hours after the crash Harsin still had a blood alcohol level of .21. When he’s sentenced on March 13th he could get 15 years to life in prison.
