A shooting incident west of Palo Cedro Thursday turned out to be a case of love gone sour, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies, CHP Officers and Cal-Fire law enforcement responded after shots were fired near the end of Yuki Yuma Lane. Lieutenant Pat Kropholler referred to the place as a “compound” with people living in a main house as well as various trailers and vehicles scattered around the property. Apparently 45-year-old David Cox got into an argument with another man about a woman who both men had romantic feelings for. Kropholler says it reached a point where Cox started firing shots from a high powered rifle. Nobody was injured. Deputies in tactical gear with an armored vehicle moved in using concussion grenades as distractions and they took Cox into custody with no further shots fired. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. A few schools went on voluntary lockdown until the ordeal was over.
