Trial Set For Woman Accused Of Causing Fatal Crash

After several starts and stops the trial is set to begin anew next week for a woman accused of causing the traffic death of a young mother. 26-year-old Hayley Riggins died of injuries suffered on April 24th of 2014 when her motorcycle ran into a car driven by 54-year-old Virginia Anderson at Placer and Buenaventura. Anderson had allegedly run a red light, was driving on a suspended license, and was under the influence of Methamphetamine and prescription pills. In 2014 judges twice dismissed second degree murder charges the D.A.’s Office had filed against Anderson, saying there was no evidence of malice or intent. She could get up to 8 years in prison for the remaining charges, which include driving under the influence of drugs causing injury with a special enhancement for the comatose-causing brain injury. Jury selection is set to begin on Tuesday.
