Man Accused In Double Killing May Face Trial

A man accused of a double murder has made a court appearance. 57-year-old Micheal Helsby and 61-year-old Georgia Engelhaupt were found dead on January 14th inside an apartment on Manter Drive in Anderson. 38-year-old Anthony Baxter was taken into custody the following morning and allegedly described the killings in graphic detail to investigators. He reportedly said he suffocated both of them until they were unconscious and then stabbed them twice each in the heart with a butter knife. Baxter had just been released from prison January 6th, the week before the murders. Baxter allegedly said he killed the couple because they disrespected their roommate, the mother of Baxter’s daughter whom he considers his wife, and were planning to evict her. He later allegedly told that same woman that if she told anyone about the murders he would kill her, their daughter, and every member of her family. Baxter was in court Monday and will return October 3rd for a possible change of plea. If he doesn’t plead guilty a trial date will be set. He faces a possibility of life in prison with no parole.
