A dead man was found under suspicious circumstances at an East Redding business Monday. At around 12:30PM, police and medical help were called to Oak Tree Furniture on Bechelli Lane. The owners of the store had noticed water leaking from the building and then discovered the inside was flooded, with extensive damage to the floors and walls. The dead man was found inside a corridor in the center of the building that’s only accessible from the roof. Police say it appeared the man had been trying to break into the building from the roof and in the process he broke a water line. The Shasta County Coroner’s Office is trying to figure out the identity of the deceased, described only as a white man in his late 20’s or early 30’s. The cause of death is unclear. A Redding Police Sergeant says there’s no indication that the death is related to the murder of Ed Phillips, who was shot on August 17th at a different Bechelli Lane business a little to the south.
