A 38-year-old man from San Francisco is accused of starting two arson fires over the weekend at Lake Shasta. The pair of fires broke out Saturday within a mile-and-a-half of each other at the Little Backbone Inlet. Firefighters held the damage to a combined two acres and it was determined that they were started intentionally and maliciously. At 6 O’clock Sunday morning firefighters discovered Otis Charles Patterson the Third in the bushes next to the fire line. He was flown by CHP helicopter to a Redding hospital for a medical evaluation. When Cal-Fire officers talked to Patterson he allegedly admitted to starting the fires. He’s been booked into jail for arson.
